Discover Qinji Hawaiian Bbq & Ramen

Tucked along 2224 Golden Gate Dr in Greensboro, NC, Qinji Hawaiian Bbq & Ramen is the kind of spot you stumble upon once and then keep coming back to. It doesn’t try too hard to impress; it simply focuses on bold flavors, generous portions, and a menu that blends Hawaiian plate lunch culture with comforting Japanese ramen bowls. The first time I walked in, I expected a quick casual meal. Instead, I ended up staying longer than planned, chatting with the staff while watching orders fly out of the kitchen.

What makes this place work is the balance between barbecue and broth. On one visit, I ordered the classic Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate. The meat was marinated in a sweet-savory glaze, grilled until lightly caramelized, and served with steamed rice and creamy macaroni salad. That combination isn’t random. Hawaiian plate lunches traditionally reflect a mix of Asian and American influences, and the side of macaroni salad is a long-standing staple, a fact documented by the Hawaii Tourism Authority when discussing the cultural roots of local cuisine. You can taste that fusion here-it’s not just grilled chicken, it’s a layered flavor profile shaped by soy sauce, sugar, and subtle smokiness.

On another visit, I switched gears and tried their tonkotsu ramen. The broth had that cloudy richness you’d expect from pork bones simmered for hours. According to the Culinary Institute of America, developing deep umami in ramen broth requires slow extraction of collagen and marrow, which gives the soup its silky texture. Qinji’s version delivers that comforting depth. The noodles had a firm bite, and toppings like chashu pork, soft-boiled egg, and scallions brought color and contrast. It felt carefully built rather than rushed, which says a lot for a busy restaurant.

One thing I’ve noticed consistently in customer reviews is how people appreciate the portion sizes. It’s true-these plates are generous. I once split a combo platter with a friend that included BBQ beef, short ribs, and spam musubi. Even divided between two adults, it was more than enough. That kind of value matters, especially when dining out frequently. The National Restaurant Association has reported that consumers increasingly prioritize portion value and menu variety when choosing where to eat, and this location seems to understand that trend well.

The menu itself is broad without feeling chaotic. You’ll find Hawaiian BBQ staples like kalbi ribs and katsu chicken alongside ramen options and smaller bites such as gyoza and spring rolls. That variety makes it ideal for groups. I’ve brought coworkers here for lunch meetings, and it worked because everyone-from the ramen enthusiast to the barbecue lover-found something satisfying. When ordering for a group, I usually recommend mixing combo plates with a shared appetizer so people can sample different flavors. It turns a simple lunch into a more interactive dining experience.

From a practical standpoint, the ordering process is straightforward. You choose your base, pick your protein, and customize your bowl or plate. I’ve seen them accommodate small changes, like adjusting spice levels or swapping sides when possible. While it’s not a full-service fine dining establishment, the staff tends to be attentive and quick. Wait times during peak hours can stretch a bit, especially on weekends, but the food quality has remained steady in my experience.

It’s worth acknowledging that fusion restaurants can sometimes overpromise and underdeliver. Here, though, the flavors feel grounded. The barbecue isn’t overly sweet, and the ramen broth isn’t diluted. That consistency builds trust. While I can’t verify every ingredient source, the freshness of the vegetables and the tenderness of the proteins suggest thoughtful sourcing and preparation.

In a city like Greensboro, where dining options range from classic Southern comfort food to international cuisine, this location adds something distinctive. It bridges Pacific island barbecue and Japanese noodle tradition in a way that feels approachable. Whether you’re scanning online reviews, searching for a casual dinner spot, or just craving a hearty plate lunch, this restaurant offers a satisfying middle ground-flavor-forward, filling, and refreshingly unpretentious.

  • The place could use some updating. Had a plumbing issue smell lol. Ok to the food. It’s not Hawaiian owned so a couple differences. The spam was alittle different tasting. As was the macaroni salad. Mac salad should be white and basic. That’s the delicious Hawaiian way. Now the plates were very well done! The chicken and beef ribs were very good! Also had some shrimp appetizer. Also good. If they changed their Mac salad and added a spam platter the rating would be higher. I give the food a 7.5 and service was a 10! Definitely give them a try!! Also in the pics I chose to have my spam without sauce and seaweed.

  • This place gets a 100 out of 10 for me! From the moment you enter, you are greeted with the kindest people! The menu is unique and offers so many delicious options! The food we ordered was prepared extremely fresh and every single item was perfect! We ordered spam masubi(not pictured, but definitely a favorite!), fried beef noodles, chicken katsu, beef and rice, and spicy tonkotsu ramen! Some of the meals included miso soup and this amazing macaroni salad that had a nice kick to it and was pleasantly surprising! The Katsu was perfectly thin and crispy while still being juicy and the pineapple complemented it so well! The tonkatsu ramen had the best amount of spice with an amazing egg and the noodles had the best chew texture we've had in awhile! The beef noodles though, they were the main attraction for me with thick style lomein, beautifully al dente vegetables, and velveted beef. The flavor was outstanding. If you are a rice connoisseur, this place has THAT good rice- iykyk!!! We can't wait to come back and try the rest of this menu. Bonus! WE LEFT WITH A TON OF LEFTOVER FOOD AND I CAN TESTIFY THAT IT REHEATS INCREDIBLY THE NEXT DAY! NOT STALE AND NO OILY TASTE. JUST DELICIOUSNESS! You will leave this restaurant satisfied and planning a return visit!

  • The food is amazing! We had the grilled mix plate and the grilled beef. Flavorful and tender! I wish the macaroni salad was cold instead of room temperature..but still very good! Our server was quick, friendly and made sure we were well taken care of! We will be back to try more menu items!

  • We ordered the Zasai Ramen, spicy miso ramen and the spam musubi. All three dishes were full of flavor and very well done! Super friendly staff! Great option for dine in or take out!

  • Pretty good food for the portion size and price, the staff was also super respectful and kind. Got tonkotsu ramen and they gave me a lot of pork. I will note said pork was a bit on the fattier side but pork is pork so I wont complain. Takoyaki was good flavour wise but not as crispy as it could be. Vegetarian ramen was amazing my mom said. I will say the atmosphere is kinda offputting as it's a lil dark in there and they use plastic containers for the ramen which I'd argue makes it easier to take home but it may be offputting to some. All in all if I lived around here I'd go back.

  • Friendly table service restaurant. Didn't take a picture, but the mockiko chicken appetizer was our favorite. Perfectly fried with spicy mayo and BBQ sauce on top. The ramen noodles were more like egg lo-mein, but still tasty with broth and other add-ins. The chicken ramen came with a whole katsu chicken cutlet.

  • This was my go to spot for loco moco. Unfortunately it is off the menu now, so I opted for Tonkotsu ramen. Of my GOD, it is the best ramen I have tasted in Greensboro, MC. If you are a ramen person, you owe it to yourself to try this place!

  • We were promptly greeted upon entering. Service was pleasant and they answered all our questions as first time customers. The food came out fairly quick. We all ordered something different, and shared bites off of all our plates. It would be impossible to pick a favorite as it was all top notch. The food was very tasty and fresh. Everything was perfectly cooked and flavorful. We decided to try the malasadas as dessert and they were excellent as well. We will definitely be dining here again!
